Season Two of Expedition Unknown Follows Gates Around the World Exploring Iconic Legends, Including a High-Seas Adventure to Uncover the Real Story of Christopher Columbus
Travel Channel’s charismatic explorer, Josh Gates, is back for a new season of the hit series Expedition Unknown, seeking answers to some of the world’s most captivating unsolved stories and legends. Leaving no stone unturned, his adventures take him around the globe as he immerses himself in the core locales linked to each tale. This season he’s digging up more adventure — excavating ruins for evidence of the real Robin Hood, diving the deep seas in search of Japan’s Atlantis, searching for the lost pieces of the Christ’s “True Cross,” and trekking to the edge of Tibet in search of the legendary Shangri-La, to name a few.
Josh talks with Ric about his upcoming two-part special in which he embarks on a massive journey through four countries on two continents to uncover the real story of Christopher Columbus. Revered as a hero for centuries, historians have more recently shed light on his less admirable qualities and the long-term effects of his discovery. So was Columbus a hero or villain? Two mysteries about the explorer, if solved, could reveal the man behind the myth: did Columbus’ flagship, the Santa Maria, really crash the way he suggested, and where are his remains actually located?
Josh shares more details about his journey and the discovery he and his team make, as revealed in the 12/2 and 12/9 episodes of Expedition Unknown.
