Lifelong adventurers Bruce and Christine did not give up their passion for exploration once they had children; and they’ve been traveling with both kids (Bodi, 7 and Taj, 3) since they were infants. The couple saw this opportunity, their biggest journey yet, as an unforgettable learning experience, but also as a chance to unplug from technology and expose their boys to some of life’s simple wonders. The 96-day expedition ends at Karsha Gompa – a secluded cliff-side monastery in Ladakh, India, where they’ll live and work for three months with Buddhist monks. The only catch to this journey is – NO Airplanes. They’ll get to their final destination through surface travel only – canoe, container ship, ferry, high-speed train, river boat, tuk tuk, pony, their own eight feet and more. Bruce Kirkby is a wilderness guide, writer and award-winning photographer. With journeys spanning more than 80 countries and 2000 days. Bruce’s accomplishments include the first modern crossing of Arabia’s Empty Quarter by camel, a raft descent of Ethiopia’s Blue Nile Gorge by raft, sea kayak traverse of Borneo’s northern coast, and a coast-to-coast Icelandic trek. Bruce’s writing has appeared in The New York Times, EnRoute, Huffington Post, Explore and Canadian Geographic. Bruce’s photography was selected by National Geographic as among “the most compelling adventure images of the decade.” Bruce and his family make their home in Kimberley, B.C. www.travelchannel.com/shows/whats-new-on-travel-channel/articles/big-crazy-family-adventure
