Former Marine and Racecar Driver Mark Llano Races for Military Veterans and Their Families

Find Out How You Can Support the “Boots on” Scholarship Program, Enabling Military Families to Pursue Higher Education Goals

According to MilitaryFamily.org, the unemployment rate for military spouses is nearly 26 percent — more than five times the national average. Military spouses face a number of challenges, due to constant moves and deployments, often forcing them to put their personal and professional goals on hold. To lend support to military families and their children, Mark Llano, a former U.S. Marine who served in the Gulf War, helped launch the “Boots On” Scholarship program. Created by the non-profit Boot Campaign, Kaplan University and Mark’s own Serket Racing, the program empowers military spouses and children to receive full or partial scholarships to Kaplan University.

Mark combined his passion for auto racing and his desire to assist military families to create Serket Racing, a Florida-based Porsche racing team dedicated to raise awareness and support for veterans and their families. Mark can share more details about the challenges faced by military families, how his racing team is helping to support this cause, and how listeners can show their support for programs that aid veterans and their families such as the “Boots On” Scholarship program.
